Wind Ridge new start

Jeff E and crew have been working hard on making a new 580 m-long  trail up Wind Valley to replace the old one that was decimated by the floods of 2013. It has 4 new bridges if you count the 2015 bridge over Pigeon Creek that was recently felled by a falling tree. While the trail is not quite finished, you are encouraged to start using it. Later, “Friends” will be coming along to do some fine tuning. For what it’s worth, the new trail is 150 m shorter than the old one that will remain open for equestrians who don’t mind splashing across Pigeon and Wind creeks.

Getting off the Pigeon Creek bridge is much easier than it used to be.

So on reaching the Centennial trail up Mount Allan, turn left. In only 60 m, at a blue post, turn right onto the new trail that undulates a little, en route using one section of old road before flattening out and crossing in short order Wind Creek, a small side creek and then West Wind Creek. This is a lovely bit of trail routing and you might want to linger at a couple of rock seats scheduled for the stretch between the 3rd and 4th bridges. After bridge no. 4 the trail climbs steeply up the bank and joins the original exploration road at a blue post. Turn left for Wind Ridge and Wind Valley. (From here the distance to South Wind Hoodoos turnoff  is 88 m. Exploration road to right has logs across it that horses can step over.

Start to bypass trail.
